Harrow Council in London has announced that it will drop charges it tried to bring against a mother after she allegedly put forward false information on her child's school application form.
Mrina Patel is thought to have entered her mother's address on a school application form in a bid to get her child into the school of her choice, but was later found out and threatened with legal action under the Fraud Act 2006.
However, the BBC reports, the council has now withdrawn the charges amid doubts as to whether Ms Patel can be disciplined under the act after discovering a 'loophole' in the clauses.
'But we are looking at other avenues and we'll be discussing it further. But it would help if the government considered this position, because it is a nationwide problem,' the leader of the council, David Ashton told the news provider.
The Fraud Act 2006 came into power on January 15th 2007 and defines fraud as a false or dishonest act through which the perpetrator intends to make gains at the expense of another.
