Four IT workers have lost their jobs after it was discovered they lied about their qualifications.
The senior freelance personnel, who worked in financial services, were given the sack after the inconsistencies were found on their CVs, reports Contractor UK.
Alexandra Kelly, founder of Powerchex, the company that screened the contractors, said: 'A lot of IT contractors are being screened for the first time for qualifications - a few were caught lying about degrees and other qualifications.'
'In every case they lost their contracts, even though they had been with the client for a long time and they were screened as part of renegotiating an existing contract.'
Ms Kelly added that employers are increasingly verifying the skills of IT freelancers at the end of contracts to check for any inconsistencies.
According to Philip Fanthom, managing director of Jenrick IT, there is no point in lying on a CV because it will always be found out when an agent takes references and conducts security and financial checks.
