Plea services launched on-line for motoring offences.
The Government has launched a new service that allows motorists charged with summary offences to enter a plea on-line.
Launched in March 2015 if you have been charged with speeding, not having insurance or a number of other minor motoring offences, you will be able to enter a plea on-line; the National launch of the 'make a plea' service follows a pilot scheme in Manchester.
The aim of the new service is to save time and money and make the process more convenient for the offender, with in excess of 4 million offences being handled by the criminal justice system each year.
The new system follows on the back of a report that suggests a move to an on-line court for disputes up to £25000, which would include on-line judges. These latest recommendations and the new motoring system show the willingness for the court system to embrace technology in order to speed things up and save money.
Almost £200 million is being spent updating the IT systems within the courts to allow better access to information.
The new system is not new, it's just a new delivery method of the pleading by post which has been around for years, what the new system does achieve is the reduction of administration for the courts and of course reduction of costs and added convenience for the offender.
For those without access to smart phones or computers you will still be able to enter a plea by post.
We would imagine that this is just the start and many other low-level offences will be incorporated into the 'make a plea' on-line service.
