Mary Monson Solicitors

Mary Monson set up this firm in Salford in 1979, the first woman in the region to start her own criminal law practice. She began with one room and a typist at the front desk, and with a conviction that people accused of crime deserve somebody who will fight properly for them. Over the forty-five years that followed, that one room grew into offices across England and Wales. Mary died in 2022, and the work she started continues in her name and to her standards.

We are criminal defence specialists, and we do not do anything else. That focus is deliberate: it means the person handling your case has spent a whole career in this one area rather than a few weeks a year in it. Our approach is to be assertive on your behalf and careful with you at the same time, to tell your story as it actually is rather than a cautious version of it, and to instruct barristers who will do the same. We hold Lexcel accreditation, and we are ranked in the Legal 500.

Most people who ring us have never needed a solicitor before and are frightened. That is completely normal, and we are used to it.
