Maxwell Hodge

Maxwell Hodge began in 1934, when Sir Maxwell Entwistle, newly qualified as a solicitor at twenty-one, opened his own practice at 6 Water Street in Liverpool. John Byrne joined him in 1941, and the firm those two men built has been looking after Merseyside ever since.

A good deal of our history is really the history of other local practices as well. Over the years we have taken in T J Smith and Son, which had been serving Liverpool since 1853, along with Woolcott and Co on the Wirral, Aneurin Rees and Davies, Goffey and Co in Formby and Vyner Brooks in Aintree. In 2005, the firm merged with Carter Hodge and became Maxwell Hodge as you know it now. Today we work from seven offices across Merseyside and the Wirral, and we act for clients throughout England and Wales.

What has not changed in ninety years is the way we prefer to work. Every client gets a named lawyer rather than a case number, and if coming in to see us is difficult, we will come to you instead, at home, in hospital or in a nursing home. We hold Lexcel accreditation from the Law Society, and our teams carry the specialist marks that go with the work they do.
